Removingamemorymodule

Beforeyoubegin,printalltherelatedinstructionsorensurethatyoucanviewthePDFversiononanother

computerforreference.

Note:Tooptimizesystemperformance,ensurethatyoufollowthememorymoduleinstallationruleswhen

performingtheoperation.See“Memorymoduleinstallationrules”onpage76

Toremoveamemorymodule,dothefollowing:

1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall

powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.

2.Iftheserverisinstalledinarackcabinet,removetheserverfromtherackcabinetandplaceitonaﬂat,

clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.SeetheRackInstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.If

theserverisintowerformfactor,laytheserveronitssideforeasieroperation.

3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage66.

4.Removethecoolingshroud.See“Removingthecoolingshroud”onpage69.

5.Locatethememoryslotsonthesystemboard.See“Systemboardcomponents”onpage41.

6.Removeanypartsanddisconnectanycablesthatmightpreventyouraccesstothememoryslots.

7.Locatethememorymodulethatyouwanttoremoveandopentheretainingclipsonbothendsofthe

memoryslot.Then,graspthememorymodulebyitsedgesandcarefullypullitstraightuptoremoveit

fromthememoryslot.

8.Reinstallanypartsandreconnectanycablesthatyouhaveremoved.

9.Ifyouareinstructedtoreturntheoldmemorymodule,followallpackaginginstructionsanduseany

packagingmaterialsthataresuppliedtoyouforshipping.
